The Volvo F1 Emergency One Pump Ladder is registered PO68 WCK as used by the Greater Manchester F & R Service. It is decorated in the familiar bright yellow and red, with silver masking and carries an impressive run of ladders which stretch right along the roof as far as the roof light on the cabin, coloured silver. Other exterior trim is finished in either black or silver and topped with a blue roof bar above the cab windscreen. The crew cabin interior is all black, built to carry a 6-person crew in the extended cab. The highly detailed Greater Manchester F&R crest features on the cab doors with the full name of the Service printed along the roof line of the vehicle on both sides.

Emergency One (UK) Limited is based in Cumnock where it was founded in 1989. The expanding company which has undergone a management buyout has moved to new premises on the same Cumnock estate. It is now arguably the UK’s leading manufacturer of fire and rescue vehicles. The Volvo F1 Emergency One Pump incorporates a Volvo Euro-6 compliant D8K280, 280 hp engine with maximum torque of 1700 rpm. Transmission is fully automatic with integral hydraulic retarder, an electronic braking system, ABS, Anti slip regulation (ASR), stability control, 5.8 tonne capacity front axle with a full air suspension 19.8 tonne drive axle with locking differential (diff lock). In real life too, a final safety feature to combat attack is anti-bandit glass to the windows.

Very Nice Generic Volvo Appliance.

The reservation and purchasing was very straightforward from Oxford directly. The model arrived quickly and was very well packaged meaning it arrived in mint condition. The models itself is a very nice casting with some nice detailing and a bright colourful livery. My only slight issue is that this is just a re-livery of the West Yorkshire appliance which was their first subject. Therefore it has the West Yorks Ladder setup and Nightscan unit positioning. The actual GM vehicles have a full length extension ladder on the offside rear, a red storage box instead of ladders on the nearside rear and the Nightscan is the opposite way around. Also they have U.H.P.L. signwriting on the cab front and sides, none of which are present on the model. These can be got around of course with a bit of code3 work, but it would have been nice if it was correct upon purchase. Oxford have the neccessary ladder gantry for the offside as used on several Scania models so surely it would have been reasonably easy to get that and the UHPL lettering right at least. Overall though, a very nice quality base model to start with. Well done Oxford.

Greater Manchester Volvo Fire Appliance

No problem with the model which is superb and making the order straightforward. However, I did contact Oxford as the label on the bottom of the boxes containing the models states is is an East Sussex fire appliance. Not sure if this may affect the value in the future.

Greater Manchester fire Volvo

The model overall is good. Having seen and photographed the actual fire engine in real life it’s a shame small details are missing and other parts of the model are incorrect such as ladder gantries and wording.
