History Of Steam Locomotives
The first steam locomotive was invented by Richard Trevithick in 1804 and was used to transport coal from mines to factories. These locomotives were steam engines that ran on rails laid down on land and pulled wagons loaded with coal. Since then, many improvements have been made to these machines through time such as replacing wood with steel for making axles, wheels, and other mechanical parts of the engine; installing brakes on the wheels so that they do not slide off the track when going downhill; improving their speed by adding more cylinders, etc.
British Railway Locomotive
The BR Standard steam locomotives became a way standardise locomotives from the Motley collection. In 1951, British Railway started to build steam locomotives to its own standard designs. These were largely based on LMS practice but incorporated ideas and modifications from other companies and also influences from America.
