Oxford Diecast Pat Collins Highwayman Ballast & Low Loader - 1:76 Scal

Product Code: 76SH003

£13.95

This is another great little model to add to your fairground scene. Pat Collins Funfairs go back as far as 1875 when the founder, Patrick Collins, established a round of fairs in the Black Country. Of Irish descent, Patrick was born in 1859 on a fairground site in Chester, one of five children. During his lifetime he not only established one of the longest surviving Showmen's fairground attractions but he also achieved the status of being Liberal MP for Walsall and Mayor of Walsall. He was also for a time President of the Showmen's Guild of Great Britain. Pat Collins died in 1943 but the business continued to be run under its original name by his son Patrick Ross Collins, who was born in 1886. Even today, the fair still carries the Pat Collins name, although the company is now owned by another famous name in the fairground fraternity- Anthony Harris and his family.

    Narrow Gauge pair

I bought the low loader and the IoM narrow gauge loco as a pair. I model OO9 and a number of my locos are static. I am currently building a workshop with an overhead crane and wanted a suitable load. Unfortunately the loco is a tad too long for the low loader but it will make an impessive stand alone model outside the engine shed. It's beautifully detailed, with an excellent paint job. I have another static loco (an old Matchbox diesel that some OO9 modelers have converted to a working loco) that I can use on the low loader, which is also a fine model. One of the advantages of modeling a non-prototype railway is that anything I like can happen on it. So it's not surprising that they hired a showman's transporter to move a loco to the workshop.
